When was the last time you replaced your O2 sensor? (Bosch 13913 “generic” will splice in if you don’t want to spend an extra $100 for the Audi connector)

Have you checked for any stored ECU codes?

  • Just curious how many uber high mileage (or km) cars are out there still on the roads. I know at 163k my car is hardly a contender for any records. I’ve known of several cars with 260k mi. on them.

Anyone else out there with an extremely advanced odometer? 😉

  • Ahhhh… I’m betting that tab is a ‘safety’ to keep the petcock from coming all the way out. Looks like it would go in and hold the petcock at the narrow point on the body. I’ll try to get out in the garage and take a closer look at mine today if I get a […]

My car has about 163k so we’re in roughly the same boat. In my case, the running condition would deteriorate as the car warmed up. The paste used on mine came from a computer processor fan/heat sink installation. Local computer stores should have it. And yes, POS installation is pretty easy especially if you have […]

  • Here’s the pics: The top pic is a brand new petcock I was hoping to put on the car. The bottom pic is the original petcock presently on car. Slight coolant leak can be seen at arrow by small plastic rectangular tab. I just assumed this tab was part of the new petcock so I […]

  • Sorry about that Jimbo, you can try uploading your image again. I set default size to 600kb for files and 700kb for jpg or png images.

So far mine seems to have gone away after reapplication of the heat sink paste on the backs of the POS units. Might want to check that on your car Ed.

  • Ok, here is a picture of the radiator drain petcock on car with the plug fully tightened. As you can see I have a slow drip at the blue rectangular plastic tab (denoted by arrow). This plastic tab seems to protrude out a bit, maybe about 1/8″. Also attached is a new radiator drain plug that […]

  • I have never fully removed the drain plug while draining my system. I would unscrew it at far as it would go and then flush the system with DI water before tightening and refilling. The tab thing doesn’t ring a bell for me. Maybe post a pic of it if possible?

  • I am draining my radiator using the round plastic blue drain plug on passenger side lower radiator and have a question. I unscrew the plug about 5 complete revolutions, coolant drains out the drain tube but the drain plug does not want to loosen anymore and be completely removed. I don’t want to force it […]

    Hi Ed,

I’ve been dealing with a similar issue myself. I assume you replaced all your coils with original Beru coil units AND boots?

How many miles on your Avant? Have you ever replaced the power output stages on the firewall?

1994 UrS4 was the best car I ever owned. Kept it for 14 years and should have kept it forever.

    • I’d have to agree. There are times when mine frustrates me but overall it has been (and is) still a fantastic car. Of course, you’ve moved on to an S5 which is next on my “most wanted” list!

      • Well, aside from the inherent differences between older and newer, I guess that’s true of most any, at times. The S5 appealed to me because there are so few quattros with manual transmission, and there are so many 4-bodies on the road.

        • I’ve always loved Coupes. Prior to the S4 I had a Coupe quattro 20V. Loved the looks of it and wanted to make an RS2 coupe out of it but that was back when used AAN engines were still pretty expensive to snap up and build so I sold it. I don’t miss the rather flexible chassis on the CQ or the stupid Hitachi injection stuff however.

          I think…[Read more]

          • I come from a mentality of old Mustangs and GTOs, and the concept that a two-door ’57 Chevy is more desirable than a four-door, and so on. But I do miss having a usable back seat, even if it’s for groceries, at times. But it’s hard not to like the quattro Concept from the current Paris Auto…[Read more]

  • Mine’s not a smell like hot coolant – just a hot smell as if it was starting to overheat a bit. I already replaced the expansion tank which had a slow leak so I know that smell. Let us know what you find.

  • I also just replaced that 6″ long hose that connects to the hard line behind timing belt cover which feeds the turbo coolant. It is actually 10mm ID high temp hose but I got 7/16″ ID high temp transmission hose from local auto parts store and it works fine. As far as the burning oil […]
